There are four processing technology mainly used to extract gold in scrap circuit boards (also used in E-waste industry) as followed:
● Aqua regia method,
Aqua regia processing technology is mainly apply to extract gold from CPUs, when the cyanide method fails, because the thick gold layer and gold wires inside.
Aqua regia processing also can used to separate & split out gold from other metals, so if there have gold mixed, aqua regia technology is valid.
● Cyanide processing technology
Cyanide method mainly used in extracting gold from CPU, due to its thick plating and gold wires inside and no base metals inside,
However, cyanide method cannot completely recycle gold, this is why we have to adopt other methods to fully extract gold. While the aqua regia method can be used to split off gold from other metals.
● Electrolysis
Electrolytic gold extraction used to extract the pure copper from crude copper, due to the anode slime within lots of gold, silver, palladium after electrolysis the crude copper
● Nitric processing technology
Nitric processing technology can be applied to extract gold from various gold plated connectors and different kinds of pins, if the gold layer is thick and other base metals are present.
However, Nitric processing can not be used in CPU, because of no base metals in it, but there have gold wires inside.
